Lenten Meditations

An exhibition of paintings by Sandy Walker for a 1978 Lenten exhibit at St. John the Divine in New York City is shown at FCCB as Stations of the Cross. Created as a meditation on the Passion story of Jesus, the work has three monumental size paintings as its center piece: the Garden of Gethsemane (92" x 144"), At that Moment the veil of the Temple was rent from top to Bottom (68" x 92") and Easter Morning (92" x 144"). These major sized oil paintings are accompanied by a set of eight smaller paintings (18"x36"). They reflect a traditional Stations of the Cross but are the artist1s very personal and semi abstract versions of various moments in the last days of Jesus' life as told in the New Testament.
